Bougainvilleas

A natural choice for colour

When wandering through the narrow cobbled streets of Skopelos’ Town and villages, the visitor cannot miss bougainvilleas. Looking magnificent, they hang over white washed walls, providing impressive explosions of color.

The mild Mediterranean climate of Skopelos, in combination with the very bright full sun, allows this wonderful, pest-free ornamental vine species to grow anywhere, scrambling over walls, balconies and other plants with its spiky thorns.

Bougainvilleas are very popular by the locals and currently there are plenty of varieties to be seen around the island, being the result of interbreeding among various species.
